Breville Fresh Juice Fountains: 95, Fresh, and Compact

Breville’s refreshed Fresh line uses three related centrifugal designs with different collection layouts: the Fresh 95 BJE420, Fresh BJE440, and Fresh Compact BJE220. The figures below describe the Australian/New Zealand editions documented on Breville’s AU pages and linked ANZ manuals. They are helpful for comparing those exact units and understanding their names, but they are not U.S. buying specifications.

Compare the ANZ configurations by the parts you handle

  • Fresh 95 BJE420: 84 mm chute, two speeds, 1.4 L jug, separate 3 L pulp bin, and included juice nozzle. The page lists a 45.5 × 19.2 × 41.8 cm body and the manual identifies a 1,050 W motor.
  • Fresh BJE440: also an 84 mm chute, two speeds and a cup nozzle, but with a larger 2 L jug, 3.4 L separate pulp bin and 1,250 W motor. Its listed body is 46 × 21.7 × 43.1 cm.
  • Fresh Compact BJE220: a 75 mm chute, two speeds, a 1.4 L jug and an integrated pulp collector inside the machine footprint. Its body is listed at 35.5 × 28.5 × 40.5 cm; the inspected product page and manual do not state the collector’s capacity or list a separate cup nozzle.

That comparison points to three different choices. If a larger receiving jug and pulp bin matter most, the BJE440 is the largest package. If you prefer the 1.4 L jug but want the broader 84 mm chute and an included cup nozzle, the BJE420 has those parts. If you want to avoid a separate bin beside the base, the BJE220 integrates its collector, accepting the narrower 75 mm opening and greater listed depth. None of these traits establishes a higher yield, faster kitchen workflow, or easier mesh cleaning for every user.

Keep the measurements in their original units

Breville publishes the new Fresh jug sizes in liters and chute widths in millimeters. A 2 L vessel is about 67.6 U.S. fl oz, not a 70 fl oz jug; 1.4 L is about 47.3 U.S. fl oz. Similarly, 84 mm is about 3.31 inches and 75 mm is about 2.95 inches. Those conversions make the three models easier to place beside U.S. products, but the metric numbers are the original maker labels. A chute size is not a guarantee that each piece of produce fits whole.

The body dimensions are WxDxH, not a guarantee that the whole operating setup fits. Check overhead space for the feed pusher, counter depth for the jug, the side area needed by the BJE420 or BJE440 pulp bin, and the room needed to remove the BJE220’s integrated collector. Keep the motor base accessible for wiping and the basket assembly close to a sink for cleanup.

The manual matters as much as the name

All three ANZ manuals describe a two-speed centrifugal setup and call for matching speed to the ingredient. They also advise one minute of motor rest between uses, cap carrot loads at 3 kg, and give 5 kg of beetroot over two minutes as an example of anticipated heavy loading. Those limits are useful when planning a session; the larger BJE440 jug does not make it a continuous-duty appliance.

The manuals list many removable parts as dishwasher-safe, but the fine filter basket is top-rack-only and needs prompt brushing. The Fresh 95 and Fresh manuals identify a supplied juice nozzle; the Fresh Compact manual says a glass may sit under the spout but recommends the jug and lid to reduce splatter. A glass under an outlet and a supplied cup nozzle are not the same package feature. The finder therefore asks whether a verified nozzle is essential rather than interpreting every direct-glass arrangement as equivalent.

Do not transfer ANZ facts to a U.S. support code

Breville’s U.S. support directory lists BJE420 Fresh 95, BJE440 Fresh and BJE220 Fresh Compact. Its embedded variant data gives item numbers for several finishes: BJE420BSS1ANA1, BJE420BTR1ANA1, BJE420SST1ANA1, BJE420DBL1ANA1 and BJE420ALM1ANA1; BJE440SIL1ANA1; and BJE220BTR1ANA1, BJE220BSS1ANA1 and BJE220SST1ANA1. These support records do not supply U.S. manuals, product specifications or a usable model image; all three show a generic image placeholder. The assessed product pages and manuals here are Australian-market sources, and the BJE440 and BJE220 manuals specify 220/240 V. Do not transfer those motors, dimensions, accessories or electrical details to a U.S. support code. In particular, the ANZ BJE220BSS4IAN1 review does not assess the BJE220BTR1ANA1 support-record variant.

For U.S. shopping, use the separate BJE530 Cold Plus or BJE830 Cold XL assessments if a documented direct-cup nozzle is important; the finder checks the nozzle separately from jug volume. If you want a pulp collector within the unit footprint, compare the U.S. BJE200XL Compact, while remembering that it has a different one-speed arrangement. The JE98XL Plus is another documented two-speed U.S. model. These alternatives have their own real differences and should not be treated as U.S. equivalents to the ANZ Fresh models.

Choose by routine, then confirm the exact version

Start with your ordinary batch, pulp disposal and pouring routine. Then measure the whole installation and decide whether the nozzle or an in-footprint bin is essential. If you are looking at a listing labeled BJE420, BJE440 or BJE220 in the United States, match the exact U.S. suffix and its own manual before using any Fresh-family specification. The ANZ reviews below explain the regional reference models; the U.S. finder excludes them and evaluates only the verified U.S. configurations.
