Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Do you want a centrifugal juicer and a personal blender on the same motor base?
The exact 67970 page identifies both functions, and the manual shows separate juicer and blender assemblies that must be changed between; they are not simultaneous modes.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the included 20-ounce jar enough to collect juice and then serve as your blender vessel?
The supplied 20 oz personal blender jar can sit below the juice outlet and has a 20 oz MAX fill line; this is vessel size, not a yield promise.
Explore this need in the finder →Would the documented three-inch feed opening fit the produce you prepare?
The page lists a 3-inch chute and gives examples that may fit whole, but the manual still requires a pusher and peeling or pitting some ingredients.
Explore this need in the finder →Are two speeds plus pulse enough, or is a different speed-control type essential?
The manual's four-position switch offers OFF, LO, HI and pulse. It is not variable-speed and has no documented Quiet label.
Explore this need in the finder →Can you accept dishwasher-safe removable parts without using a high-heat SANI cycle?
The exact Use & Care guide allows dishwashing removable parts but prohibits SANI and excludes the motor base; it still recommends prompt brushing of the fine mesh.
Explore this need in the finder →Hamilton Beach's Big Mouth Juice & Blend 67970 is unusual for a centrifugal juicer because the same motor base also accepts a personal blender jar. The useful difference is not a second motor or a promise of simultaneous juice-and-blend operation: it is a way to collect juice in the included 20-ounce jar, change the attachment stack, and blend that juice with other ingredients without pouring it into a different cup first.
One base, two distinctly assembled jobs
The exact U.S. page identifies model 67970 as a 2-in-1 juicer and blender. The linked Use & Care guide depicts the juicer's stainless micro-mesh basket, bowl, cover, side pulp bin and adjustable spout separately from the personal blender jar, blade assembly, collar and travel lid. The base uses a four-position control marked pulse, off, low and high; its latches face different icons for the juicing and blending setups. That is real functional range, but it requires a deliberate changeover. Juice first into the blending jar or another vessel. Stop the machine, remove the juicer stack and pulp bin, then install the blade-and-collar arrangement before blending. It is not a machine that extracts and blends at once.
It suits regular juice-and-small-smoothie use on one base. If either function is occasional, the extra jar, blade, collar and lid add storage and cleanup. If blending dominates, a dedicated personal blender is simpler.
The 20-ounce jar is a collection option, not a yield rating
Hamilton Beach specifies a 20-ounce shatterproof blender jar and the manual marks its maximum fill line at 20 ounces. The juicing instructions also place that jar below the juice spout, so this exact package gives you a small receiver that can become the blender vessel. The shared vessel can avoid a transfer step, but it is not a large batch pitcher. A 32-ounce supplied juice-receiver minimum rules the 67970 out even though the jar can receive juice. The capacity number tells you about the vessel, not how much juice any load of produce will produce.
The body dimensions are listed as 14.81 inches high, 7.54 inches wide and 14 inches deep. Measure the body space and leave additional room for the top pusher, the side pulp bin, the jar under the spout and cleaning access. The manufacturer calls the pulp bin large but does not give a volume; do not treat the 20-ounce jar as pulp capacity or infer how many ingredients it can process before emptying the bin.
Three-inch chute and simple speed choices
The 3-inch feed opening can reduce chopping for some produce, and the manufacturer gives examples such as a whole apple, peeled orange or handful of kale. The manual still says to peel foods such as oranges, melons or mangoes when needed for flavor and remove pits and seeds. Use the supplied pusher rather than fingers, and feed gradually; a wide opening does not guarantee every piece fits whole or remove preparation instructions.
The 800-watt motor rating accompanies two speeds plus pulse: the manual recommends HI for hard foods and LO or pulse for soft foods. This is not a variable dial, an automatic program set or a maker-labeled quiet mode. Wattage is an electrical rating, not a yield, speed, noise or superiority test. The current U.S. page lists a 3-year limited warranty; verify the terms for any used, incomplete or differently coded offer.
Cleanup is manageable, but not automatic
The page says the included Easy Sweep tool can cut strainer cleaning time in half; that is the manufacturer's claim, not a result independently measured here. The manual nevertheless makes the care steps clear: unplug first, handle the basket's sharp central cutting surfaces carefully, and brush both sides of the fine mesh under running water before pulp dries. Soak it promptly if needed. Removable parts may go in the dishwasher, but the guide prohibits its high-heat SANI cycle and keeps the motor base out of both the dishwasher and water. A dishwasher-safe label does not make the mesh self-cleaning or safe to leave until the next day.
Blending has its own limits. The manual says not to exceed the jar's 20-ounce MAX line or blend hot ingredients. It recommends starting with at least 6 ounces of liquid for best blending, and keeping protein-powder drinks below 16 ounces because the powder can expand. If ingredients stall or cling, it tells the owner to switch off, remove and shake the jar, then resume. The documented 15-minute cool-down applies after overload protection stops the motor; it is not a normal session-length rating.
Who should shortlist it?
Choose the 67970 when the second function matters: you want a centrifugal produce extractor and personal blender on one base, a 20-ounce jar that can collect juice before blending, two speeds plus pulse, and a 3-inch chute. In the finder, an integrated-blender requirement and a 20-ounce blender-vessel minimum can fit this one operating plan. A 21-ounce minimum blender vessel, a 32-ounce minimum juice receiver, a required blender Auto Clean cycle, a minimum chute above 3 inches, or approval for a SANI dishwasher cycle cannot.
For a larger shared-base blender vessel, compare the Breville BJB815: its maker lists a 50-ounce jug, a 3.5-inch chute, ten speed settings and five blender programs. Auto Clean applies only to the blender jug. That is a larger setup, not a performance verdict. If you do not need a blender, Hamilton Beach's dedicated 67870 lists a 16-ounce juice cup and an 80-ounce pulp bin—different vessels, not a large-yield promise. Read each exact review; no hands-on extraction, noise, durability or cleanup testing is claimed.

| Cleanup note | Turn off and unplug before disassembly. The stainless basket has small sharp cutting blades and a delicate mesh; use the included Easy Sweep tool under running water and clean promptly or soak so dried pulp does not clog the screen. Removable parts may be dishwashed, but never on SANI; wipe the motor base rather than immersing it. |
| Manufacturer jug label | The supplied 20 oz personal blender jar has a 20 oz MAX line and can be placed under the juice spout per the exact manual. The vessel can collect juice but is not a measured juice-yield promise or a large batch pitcher. |
| Fast/firm juicing guidance | The manual's 15-minute unplug/cool interval applies if overload protection stops the motor; it is not a normal continuous-operation limit. |
| Blender mode on the same base | Yes |
| Manual foam-management setup | No separate foam-separation function is documented for the supplied vessel. |
| Body-fit measurement note | Hamilton Beach lists 14.81 H × 7.54 W × 14 D inches. Leave added clearance above for the pusher, beside the body for the pulp bin and below the spout for the 20 oz jar or another receiver. |
| Electrical-rating caveat | The exact 840361400 Type CJ27 panel lists 120 V, 60 Hz, 800 W for model 67970. This is a maker electrical rating, not a measured extraction or blending result. |
